LIVEBIRDS on Track!!

The LIVEBIRDS business project is on track with a new breed of chicks bought a week ago at the farm.

The Project members are hard at work and determined to have the busines a success.Much motivation is from the fact that Mr Stevan Talevski is coming this weekend! an honour indeed. The former OVC Programme Offficer(Misheck Mlambo)is now fully committed to Livebirds and this week is his first after winding off all outstanding OVC issues, he is determined to work with the team and to increase sales on LIVEBIRDS.

Yes we can!

Chickens for sale!!!

The Livebirds project has managed to succesfuly raise 298 chickens which were all slaughtered and are on sale. Each bird is costing $6 and currently more than 130 birds have already been sold to some local churches and individuals and the remainder is expected to be sold by the end of next week. The chickens will all be sold strictly  on cash, credit lines will be extended when the bussines is more stable financially and could cushion bad debts, should there be any

The next batch of 400chicks will be bought within the next week, this delay is attributed to the fact that a fowl run is under construction and will be used to house the 400birds.

Photos of the birds and the fowl run will be posted shortly,
May God bless Livebirds project and the Warehouse 242 Church,

4weeks old chicks

Four(4) full weeks old!

It s now 4weeks since the birds were bought, there is only two weeks left for them to be sold.
The IGA members(youth and two volunteer ladies)went to the farm with Darlington and Misheck this last Friday for a meeting mainly centred on sales. The chicks showed every sign of health and we have 297 chicks in total-a remarkable thing indeed. We thank Warehouse 242 Church for the partnership that we are enjoying, may God bless you

drinking water like camels!

The OVC Officer slept at the farm this last night and was met wth the smiling and cheerful faces of the project members(Otilia Chitangirofa and Gladys Mudzingenyama). Most encouraging was the fact that we still have 298 birds alive all very healthy. Gladys jokingly said that they are eating and drinking like "camels",which was proven a few hours later when they had emptied almost all the food in the troughs, which were quickly refilled.

The farm is also electrified and this makes the chicks feed even at night. This is a welcome thing indeed, end of the 6th week should find the birds ready for market-the OVC Officer swears that he shall buy the 1st five birds!

May God continue to bless Livebirds, United Baptist Church and Warehouse 242 Church

Youth determined to make the project a success

A visit to the farm today found the youth hard at work trying to clean the brooder, the miracle is in the chickens which are all alive and healthy-after 5days at the farm.

It was agreed that the project owners be their own employees so that they could also make a living from the monthly allowances-without employing any other person outside the project. Gladys is adamant that the project will be a great success and the team has been on the farm since Friday with the other three guys coming in on Friday to relieve them

God bless LIVEBIRDS investments!

Some chicks are just enjoying their food on their side meaning that they are healthy and full of appetite which is of paramount importance for their growth.

Marathoners for Africa - See letter from Tabitha and Melissa!

Hi Marc and Stevan and others who love Caiphas and Warehouse!

I'm not sure who all to include in this email, but wanted to start a conversation. Tamara will be running the Paris marathon on April 10 and would like to use that event as a possible fund-raiser for Warehouse's partnership with Livebirds in ZM.  Melissa is also training and running a marathon, and I think she would like to be part of this too, but I haven't heard from her in awhile. (Melissa...?)

Part of the catalyst is that a SIM missionary from the UK is running this marathon to raise money for vulnerable children and orphans in another work of Caiphas's. His blog, "Running for HOPE"  is here:

Would it be possible to use the Warehouse in Africa facebook page and Livebirds blog to help promote Tamara's run and fund-raising?  I will let you all take it from here... By the way, Tamara is leaving for Paris to run a HALF marathon this weekend. Whohooo!

Have a great day!
Tabitha

Fellow fans of Caiphas-

Yeeess. We are marathoning. While TP, Deb and Tabs are eyeing the Eiffel Tower, I may pass a Longhorn.  My race is the same day in Dallas. I, too, would love to use the momentum to raise dough, ears, etc for Caiphas and HOPE for AIDS in general. My fear is the time factor. Sooo, I'll put up a blogette and hope for the best in the game of posting and linking posting and linking.

Rob has been able to work with the UK sending office in setting up his blog to send donations directly to Caiphas's project. If I can be a resource for you in doing the same for the US office, let me know. I'll give it a whirl when I get my blog up and running (tsk).

Let's see how we go this year and maybe we can get our heads together a bit earlier next year to coordinate same-day marathons, generate some buzz and hatch some more livebirds.

Til then,

Melissa + Sweaty 20 mile Brow

Latest progress on Livebirds - Letter from Caiphas and Darlington

Thank You for the update!  We are excited here in Charlotte to hear of your progress. Possibly the week delay will provide time to prepare the safe and healthy setting for the chick's arrival.  We will be praying here on our side!!!

Hello Stevan

We have been informed by our chicks supplier that the chicks we ordered for collection today Friday 25 February can not be delivered today. This she says has been caused by the technical problems at the hatchery. This means that our order will only be effected on Friday 04 February which is a week later than our targeted date. The deliveries are done on Fridays only. Meanwhile the team will be doing some final preparations for the fowl run rennovation materials and gathering already bought items at one place for easy collection when we eventually go to the farm with the hired vehicle.

We pray that we will get our chicks on the 4th without fail.

Background

Making AIDS Work in Zimbabwe

Over the last several years two organizations from opposite sides of the planet met to fight HIV/AIDS. Warehouse242 in Charlotte, North Carolina partnered with HOPE for AIDS in Odzi, Zimbabwe in an endeavor to tackle the AIDS pandemic in the most dignified way. This is in the form of entrepreneurship.

This is based by the simple facts. 1) An HIV infected Zimbabwean needs Anti-retroviral treatments to fight the disease and live a long life. 2) A nutritious meal is needed for the ARVs to work effectively. 3) Income is needed to purchase a nutritious meal. 4) Work or a job is needed to obtain the income to purchase the nutritious meal. Without 4) you cannot have 1).  Consequently, that is where entrepreneurship comes in with the concept of Income Generating Activity (IGA).

Income Generating Activity (IGA) is micro-lending to the highest level.  It is more than going on a website and putting your $25 in the blank field and clicking send.  It is about a significant loan of $5000 or greater that requires the donor to be a business partner. The donor is responsible for weighing into the lives of the recipient with direct contact (Skype) and writing business plans, analyzing cash flow statements, and making projections for the future. As the loan is repaid dignity rises in the recipient. As the process matures the donor's heart is filled with joy.  This is more than a transaction but a spiritual journey.

This is the reason why Warehouse24, a church, in Charlotte chose to provide through an IGA.  They have the means to generate resources in form of interest free loans and individuals with expertise in business. Also, HOPE for AIDS have a great desire to be self-sustaining and depend less on charity.  So the two teams came together to start a chicken farm business in Odzi, Zimbabwe.  The wire of funds occurred February 15, 2011. S o now the adventure really begins.
